Resection and Back Site Method for Leica TS11 Total Station

Detailed Explanation of Resection with a Total Station

Resection is a method used to set up a total station by taking references from two or three known points. Here is a detailed sequence of the resection process:

1. Setup the Total Station:

   - Place your total station at a location where you have a clear line of sight to the two or three reference points.

   - Ensure that you can also see your work area from this location.

2. Identify Reference Points:

   - Select two or three points with known coordinates (easting, northing, and elevation).

3. Enter Coordinates:

   - On the total station, enter the coordinates and elevations of the selected reference points.

4. Measure Reference Points:

   - Aim the total station at the first reference point and measure it.

   - Repeat this process for the second and third reference points (if using three).

5. Calculate Position:

   - The total station uses the measurements and the entered coordinates to calculate its own position.

   - This calculation aligns the total station with the local coordinate system, enabling accurate work.
